Centennial Arena Redevelopment Project
With the completion of the Meridian Exhibition Centre in 2021, the City intends to move forward with the second phase of
the plan to upgrade public recreational facilities and redevelop/rehabilitate the 55-year-old Centennial Arena. The City
has brought on Colliers Project Leaders with Number TEN Architectural Group to support the management, design and
construction of this renovation.

Project Updates
Date: March 17, 2025
✅ The contractor is working on removing the frost for the North-West stair addition, with cast-in-place piles already installed.
✅ Preparation is underway for the slab, with the first pour scheduled for the week of March 24th along the NE corner of the main floor.
✅ Lines have been spray painted to mark the layout for the CMU walls.
✅ Non-perforated pipe installation is in progress.
✅ The crew is also installing cast-in-place piles for the South addition.

Date: March 6, 2025
✅ The foundation around the building is done, and the base for the new floor is ready.
✅ New cooling pipes are installed to connect the arena’s ice system with the Meridian Exhibition Centre.
✅ A temporary support structure was added to the multi-purpose meeting room to extend the columns. This extension will cover the concrete foundation below the floor, ensuring it is not visible once the project is complete.
✅ Underground plumbing is being installed around the facility.

Date: April 1, 2025
✅ South bump-out piles have been installed and are now ready for the pile caps.
✅ The Northeast and Southeast apron slabs have been poured and sawcut—these areas are taking shape beautifully!
✅ The fresh concrete has now hardened, been floated, and sawcut, adding to the arena’s sturdy foundation.
✅ Prep work is underway for the floor heating system, ensuring comfort in colder months.
✅ Underground plumbing rough-ins have been completed—another big step forward.

Date: April 14, 2025
✅ The South bump-out piles have been installed and are now ready for the pile caps.
✅ Floor heat lines and concrete reinforcement have been prepared for the NW apron pour.
✅ The NW apron has been freshly poured and surface-conditioned with a power trowel.
✅ The first line of CMU walls has been completed along the East side of the building.
✅ Concourse superstructure erection is underway along the East and Northeast sides of the facility.

✅ The South bump-out grade beam is in place.
✅ Exterior corrugated panel cutting for entrance and stairwells has commenced.
✅ Temporary shoring of the south bump-out is in place for the purposes of installing structural steel beams/columns.
✅ Heating lines, sand placement, and insulation are nearly complete for the ice slab.
✅ Mechanical works installation is ongoing.
Date: August 19, 2025
✅ Majority of the concourse slab has been poured.
✅ White elastomeric sealing of all longitudinal and transverse seams on the roof.
✅ Ice slab pour and wet curing has been completed.

Date: September 15, 2025
✅Sealing of all longitudinal and transverse seams on the roof is largely complete; a few areas remain to be completed.
✅South addition steel framing has begun. The South addition will include a vestibule, lobby, ticket booth, broadcast/media room, elevator, storage room, and two sets of stairwells.
✅Wall framing for the rooms and loge seating in the multi-purpose room has begun.
✅First coat of paint and duct work has been started in most change rooms and washrooms.
✅Framing of forms for the backside of the bleachers has been started. As seen with the rebar layout, all backsides will be enclosed with concrete.

Date: Oct. 15, 2025
✅Remaining portion of the concourse has been poured now, including the broadcast booth deck. In addition, attic blow-in insulation has been started. Bleacher pours are still ongoing.
✅IMP mock up starting on the SE corner of the facility. Lots of IMP’s have been installed on the North side of the facility.
✅South Bump steel erection largely complete. Level 2 and 3 concrete pour have also been completed.
✅Grade beams for the North exterior staircases have been poured, and ramp tie-bars have been installed.
✅The existing metal decking on the East side (below the second level multi-purpose room) has been epoxy painted. The existing metal decking will be visible in most the change rooms.

Date: Nov. 20, 2025
✅ IMP installation has started on the south bump out.
✅Drywall, taping and mudding has been completed on the north wall. The lounge/MPR has been drywalled.
✅Sidewalk, curb, and front pad concrete works have started in front of the south bump out.
✅The original north corrugated wall on the main floor has been refurbished and painted.
✅Installation of steel picket railing, a generous 90 degree angle top plate, has started.
✅Speaker system installation on the ceiling deck has been completed.

Date: Dec. 10, 2025
✅Low-e ceiling has started and is roughly 60% complete. Ice surface lights and tube heaters for the stands have been switched on.
✅Installation of dasher boards is currently ongoing. Dasher boards consist of a black top cap, and yellow sill plate.
✅Glass storefront has been installed in the multi-purpose room – separating the common space and box suites.
✅Installation of washroom fixtures have begun.

✅Completed items include: low-e ceiling, dasherboards and shielding, and kevlar netting
✅Speaker system and black vinyl floor are installed, and ceiling tiles are mostly installed.
✅Handrails and step nosings have been installed.
✅Installation of seats is currently ongoing. Individual seats will be installed on the sides, and benches with backrests will be installed on the ends.
✅Installation of chain link fence and privacy strips for the storage areas under the bleachers is currently ongoing.
